Cowichan Cyclists Raise Funds For Hospice Care

July 15, 2021 By Todd Foley

Cyclists across Vancouver Island are joining forces for hospice care through the 8th Annual Cycle of Life Tour. Every dollar raised makes a difference for local patients and families in need of compassionate end-of-life care.

The second annual virtual ride will take place on July 24, 2021, and cyclists will be simultaneously riding in at least ten communities around the Island to make a difference for those in need of hospice care.

Cowichan Hospice is raising funds once again with our riding team Cowichan Life Cyclers led by Team Captain Gretchen Hartley. There is no limit to the team size, so anyone can join Cowichan Life Cycler’s virtual team.

“The community work of the Hospice Society has continued and become even more important during these COVID times,” says David Pope, Cowichan Life Cyclers team member and long-time supporter of Cowichan Hospice. “Despite the restrictions isolating us all, the staff and volunteers have used technology and resourcefulness to secure safe meeting places to carry on providing palliative and bereavement care and support.”

Fellow rider and Cowichan fundraiser Mary Hof will ride in honour of her late father who believes in the importance of hospice care. “This is my third year that I will be riding for our Cowichan Hospice. I will always remember when my dad’s care changed to end of life care in 2019, there was no hospice and his last wishes were not to die in hospital. I remember he was so happy and proud that I was riding for Hospice and I want to honour that memory.”

The Cowichan Life Cyclers will have a COVID-safe gathering at Enrico Winery in Mill Bay following their ride. To join the team or make a donation, visit Cycleoflifetour.ca.
