What does it mean to live fully? What’s on your bucket list?
Come join in the conversation with Cowichan Hospice at the Ladysmith Health Fair on November 4th at the Frank Jameson Community Center from 1 – 4pm. We’ll be bringing the interactive art project known as the Before I Die walls to Ladysmith for the very first time!
Before I die I want to…
see my students become teachers,
to write a book,
to love recklessly again,
to understand,
to be ok with not understanding,
to see all homeless people with homes,
to go to the Galapagos Island.
These were some of the things that appeared on the first Before I Die Wall – a project that started with plywood boards covering an abandoned house in New Orleans. In an effort to restore pride to the neighbourhood the boards were covered with blackboard paint and the prompt to complete the sentence: Before I die I want to_____________. Before I Die walls now exist in over 70 countries including Kazakhstan, Iraq, Argentina, and South Africa and have proven to be an inspiring way to talk about living.
From the whimsical to the profound, the Before I Die walls offer an opportunity for the community to come together and participate in conversations about who we are and what we value most. In bringing these walls to a number of community events Cowichan Hospice has witnessed much laughter, a few tears, and many connections made through conversations about what really matters in life. We hope you’ll join us at the Ladysmith Health Fair, read what’s on other’s bucket lists, and maybe even share your own personal aspirations in this public space.
