Q: What is hospice palliative care?
A: Hospice palliative care is whole-person care for people living with advancing illness; it includes specialized medical care as well as addressing social, psychological and spiritual needs.
The focus is on quality of life, rather than on a cure. It is care based on the dying person’s own goals and priorities. It is collaborative care that involves and supports family and caregivers through bereavement. Hospice palliative care offers the possibility of autonomy, dignity and joy at the end of life.
